The Honourable Dr. Harvie Andre, Chairman of the Board and Director
Dr. Andre is a former Cabinet Minister in the Government of Canada. From 1984 to 1993 he served in several portfolios, including: Government Services; Defence; Consumer and Corporate Affairs; Industry, Science and Technology; Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1972 and reelected five times until his retirement in 1993. Since then he has been President of Cresvard Corporation a strategic planning and management consulting firm and has served on the boards of several public and private corporations. He is President & CEO of Wenzel Downhole Tools Ltd. which manufactures and distributes equipment used in oil & gas and utility drilling. He is also Chairman of BowEnergy Resources Corp., a company exploring for Oil and Gas in Pakistan. Dr. Andre is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Darshan S. Kailly, Director
Mr. Kailly is the President and CEO of Canadian Freightways Limited ("CF"). CF has a fleet of 2,600 vehicles operating from a network of locations in Canada and the United States. Mr. Kailly is also President of Milne & Craighead Inc. a customs brokerage, 3rd party logistics provider and consulting firm.
As well, Mr. Kailly is a director of Transportation Training and Development Corporation, a training partnership for drivers with the province of Alberta and is a Director of the Canadian Trucking Alliance, the Van Horne Institute and Climate Change Central. He also serves on the University of Calgary Management Advisory Council, the Alberta Economic Development Transportation Committee and the Calgary Airport Authority Business Development Committee.
Dr. David Checkel, Director
Dr. Checkel is a Mechanical Engineering professor at the University of Alberta where his teaching duties include the supervision of several alternative fuel vehicle design projects as well as specialized graduate courses on combustion and environmental effects of engine emissions. Dr. Checkel has worked with AFS since 1996, primarily on research projects involving engine exhaust aftertreatment, emissions measurement and internal combustion studies of natural gas and dual fuel.
Dr. Checkel earned his Mechanical Engineering BSc at the University of Alberta in 1976 and completed a Ph. D. on natural gas combustion in 1981 at Cambridge University. He is a member of several technical organizations including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Combustion Institute. Dr. Checkel has published many technical papers in the areas of combustion, alternative fuels and engine emissions and is regarded as a leading authority in Canada in these fields.
Jim F. Perry, President, CEO and Director
Mr. Perry became President and CEO of AFS in November, 2002. Prior to joining AFS, Mr. Perry was President, CEO and Director of Global Thermoelectric Inc., a world leader in the development of solid oxide fuel cells. Mr. Perry's past career includes serving as Executive Director, International Development for Petro-Trade, President of Computalog Ltd. and President of Schlumberger of Canada. Mr. Perry serves as a Director of Antrim Energy Inc., an oil and gas company listed on the Toronto and London exchanges. He is a professional engineer and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Jay Zammit, Director
Jay Zammit is a partner at the law firm of Burstall Winger LLP in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Zammit practices in the areas of corporate finance and securities, advising on public and private financing matters as well as reorganizations, takeovers, mergers, shareholder disputes and strategic relationships. He is currently on the board of trustees for Cathedral Energy Services Income Trust (TSX); the board of directors of Antrim Energy Inc. (TSX and AIM board of London Exchange), Ithaca Energy Inc. (TSXV and AIM board of London Exchange); Canadian Sub-Surface Energy Services Corp. (TSX); Raremethod Capital Corp. (TSXV); Phoenix Oilfield Hauling Ltd. (TSXV); and Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. (TSXV). In addition, Mr. Zammit is on the board of directors of several private companies.
